California: Scott's Kharmann Ghia

If you read my earlier post about our visit to Huntington Beach, you saw the neat Kharmann Ghia that we saw turn off of PCH into the city. As we were walking, we spotted the car and crossed the street to check it out. We started taking some pictures (maybe weird), and eventually Scott returned, and was actually pretty excited that we were interested in his Volkswagen. Scott received the car from his great-grandmother, and has been restoring it ever since. The car shows its age with the authentic patina, and the whole package just oozes character. To help with daily driving duty, Scott replaced the old 1200cc motor with a 1600cc unit, and has spruced up the interior with reupholstered seats.

After chatting for awhile, we decided to work a full shoot into the trip. We met up on Saturday in Long Beach after the Japanese Classic Car Show. Scott is a photographer himself and joined Cory and I. You can see more of his work on IG at @64onthefloor.

Scott is part of an air-cooled VW club called Busted Knuckle Garage. You might recognize one of their Beetles that was featured on Stanceworks earlier this month.

Big thanks to Scott for being cool with us stalking his car, and being down to hang out with a couple of strangers to talk cars and take pictures. Here's to new friends in cool places.
